I know you are as thrilled as I am by the outcome of the Nov. 6 elections, when President Obama won more than 330 electoral votes, and we increased the number of senators and representatives who support women's rights. I have already met with new and returning members of Congress, as well as White House officials, laying out a pro-woman agenda -- and I'm hopeful that we can achieve much in the coming months and years.
But I know that we cannot be complacent, even for a moment. Can I count on you to help us keep moving forward -- and fighting back?

A radical fringe with a dangerously anti-woman agenda still controls the Republican Party, and they are doubling down, acting as if the shellacking they received in the elections never happened! For example, at the Republican Governors' Association meeting this week, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal insisted that his party doesn't need to change its extremist agenda, it only needs to change the way it talks about that agenda. In other words: Jindal and his pals want to hide their agenda, not change it.
Here's another, truly frightening example: The right-wing controlled Ohio House of Representatives voted on Wednesday to defund Planned Parenthood, putting the health and economic well-being of tens of thousands of women at risk. I can't think of anything more irresponsible than blocking women's access to contraception -- but that is exactly what the right wing is trying to do in state after state across the country.
We are working to show these extremists that they cannot succeed in pushing women back -- and we need you with us in this fight!
Thanks to the extraordinary activism of NOW leaders, activists and volunteers, we kept the Senate from falling into the hands of the likes of Todd Akin and Richard Mourdock. Now we need to keep the momentum going for our issues and fight back against those who refuse to accept the verdict of the voters.
Please renew your NOW membership right away, and support our critical efforts to work with our friends on Capitol Hill and in state legislatures around the U.S. We can't sit back now -- the stakes are as high as they've ever been.
