Dear Friend,2012 was a remarkable year for women. Candidates who said outrageous things about rape victims were defeated — like Richard Mourdock, who claimed "pregnancy resulting from rape is a gift from God." For the first time, many states defeated anti-LGBT marriage amendments, and more women (and women's rights supporters) were elected to seats in the U.S. Senate and House. And health care reform and other important women's issues, like economic security, will likely continue to move forward thanks to President Obama's re-election. Today, I'm asking for your help. Despite these victories, this is no time to think women's rights and lives are safe. A radical fringe still controls the Republican Party, and they have no intention of letting go of their anti-woman agenda. Right-wing leaders are already laying the groundwork for a renewed assault on reproductive freedom, and have their sights on Medicare, Social Security and other programs that women count on disproportionately. To get a head start on moving forward with a proactive agenda of our own, we're kicking off our year-end campaign so that we can continue to build on this year's critical victories for women's rights and lives.
