2012 has been a remarkable year for women.
But I know that we cannot be complacent, even for a moment. Can I count on you to help us keep moving forward -- and fighting back?
Candidates who said outrageous things about rape victims were defeated at the polls -- like Richard Mourdock, who claimed pregnancy resulting from rape is a "gift from God." For the first time, voters said "yes" to equal marriage rights in ballot initiatives, and more women (and women's rights supporters) were elected to seats in the U.S. Senate and House. And the expansion of women's access to health care can continue to move forward thanks to President Obama's re-election.

Despite our victories, this is no time to think women's rights and lives are safe. A radical fringe with a dangerously anti-woman agenda still controls the Republican Party, and they have no intention of letting go of their anti-woman agenda. Right-wing leaders are already laying the groundwork for a renewed assault on reproductive freedom, and have their sights on Medicare, Social Security and other programs that women count on disproportionately.
We are working to show these extremists that they cannot succeed in pushing women back -- and we need you with us in this fight!
Thanks to the extraordinary activism of NOW leaders, activists and volunteers, we kept the Senate from falling into the hands of the likes of Todd Akin and Richard Mourdock. Now we need to keep the momentum going for our issues and fight back against those who refuse to accept the verdict of the voters.
Please renew your NOW membership right away, and support our critical efforts to work with our friends on Capitol Hill and in state legislatures around the U.S. We can't sit back now -- the stakes are as high as they've ever been.
