| || Dear , |
Today we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the passage of Roe v. Wade, the landmark decision that legalized abortion. I wish I could tell you that even after forty years, reproductive freedom is secure.
But I can't.
Legal abortion is in greater danger now than ever — and we need your support to block legislation that would criminalize all abortion procedures and ban common birth control methods and lifesaving medical care.
Radical right-wing lawmakers are already launching an effort to reintroduce anti-choice measures from the last Congress, possibly including:
We need to quickly turn things around. Are you with me in saying no to going back to the days of deadly, back-alley abortions?
- The No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act — which would deny abortion services to women serving in the Armed Forces and end abortion coverage in most private employer insurance plans;
- The Let Women Die Act — which would permit public hospitals to let a pregnant woman die rather than perform a lifesaving abortion; and
- The Teen Endangerment Act — which would prevent young women from receiving medically necessary abortions.
In 2012, with the support of friends like you, NOW's powerful network of chapter-based and online activists defeated numerous assaults on reproductive health care. I know we can do it again — but only if you step up today.
By supporting NOW today, you can help stop the attacks by anti-woman politicians and ensure that every woman has access to the full range of reproductive health care, including abortion and birth control.
Thanks for all that you do for women's lives.
