NOW Salutes Senate Vote on Violence Against Women Act Calls on House to Follow Lead and Pass Inclusive VAWA

NOW lauds today's Senate vote to pass an inclusive and long-overdue reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). Despite efforts by a handful of misguided Republicans to undermine the bill's important provisions, the Senate reauthorized the act with a bipartisan vote of 78-22, sending it to the House for immediate action. White House staff must now review and respond to the petition's call for the Obama administration to actively support ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment. NOW Membership VP Allendra Letsome Voices Support for Harriet Tubman National Historic Parks Act

On Feb. 13, Allendra Letsome (second from right) spoke at a press conference to advocate for the passage of federal legislation to create national historical parks -– in both Maryland and New York -– in honor of Harriet Ross Tubman, the prominent conductor of the Underground Railroad. A descendent of Tubman is on the far right, next to Letsome.
