NOW Leaders: 990-N e-Postcard Due May 15
April 25, 2013
Dear NOW Leaders,
This is a friendly reminder about the upcoming Internal Revenue Service annual filing deadline which, for most chapters, is Wednesday, May 15.*
If your chapter had income of less than $50,000 in the 2012 tax year, your chapter is required to submit IRS Form 990-N also known as the e-Postcard.
It is an easy online postcard. You only need to provide some basic information including your Chapter’s:
» Chapter EIN
» Chapter name and address
» Chapter officer name and address
» Annual tax year
» Estimate of chapter income (e.g., under $50,000)
Chapters with income of $50,000 to $200,000 for fiscal year 2012 are required to submit IRS Form 990-EZ (PDF).
When filling out either the 990-N e-Postcard or the 990-EZ, be sure to use your chapter’s EIN (Employer Identification Number); not the EIN for National NOW. If you are unsure of your chapter’s EIN, please contact Anita Lederer at email@example.com.
Please note that failure to file for 3 consecutive years will result in your IRS tax-exempt status being automatically revoked. If your IRS tax-exempt status has been revoked, you cannot file Form 990-N or Form 990-EZ. See the Working with the IRS Webinar (PDF) for more information.
Questions? Please contact Anita Lederer at firstname.lastname@example.org or 202-628-8669 x134.
Note: *May 15 is the due date if your tax year ends on December 31. Otherwise your due date is 5 months after the close of your tax year.
