Stop the Nationwide 20-week Abortion Ban | National Organization for Women (NOW)
National Organization for Women

Dear ,

Rep. Trent should have no say in our reproductive rights!
I'm sure you heard the remark by Rep. Trent Franks (R. Ariz.) that "the incidences of rape resulting in pregnancy are very low" at a committee hearing last week, echoing Todd Akin's outrageous "legitimate rape" comment from the 2012 election season. This is the mentality we are up against! The Republican-led House leadership is pressing forward with Franks' nationwide 20-week abortion ban, which passed in committee on a party-line vote, and will be up for a full House vote this week.

Today, I need your help to ensure the House of Representatives doesn't pass H.R. 1797. Please chip in $15, $25 or as much as you can afford to help NOW keep our reproductive rights out of the hands of anti-woman legislators like Rep. Franks.

Some Republicans are trying to distance themselves from Franks' comments. Gabriel Gomez, running for U.S. Senate in a special election in Massachusetts, told ABC News, "I have no idea what goes into the mind of a moron like that. These kinds of comments only come from a moron and they shouldn't be tolerated one bit."

But we're not fooled. Gomez may want to suppress Franks' harsh anti-woman rhetoric, but he made no effort to oppose the harsh anti-woman policy of Franks' bill. We need to keep our reproductive rights out of the hands of men like Rep. Trent Franks, Gabriel Gomez, and others.

H.R. 1797 is unconstitutional, directly violating Roe v. Wade. We must not let this bill pass the House — please give $15, $25, $50 or whatever you can afford to help NOW stop this attack on women's basic right to abortion.

Your gift will help us raise the $100,000 we need by June 30 to fight unconstitutional bills like H.R. 1797 and mobilize NOW's We're Not Fooled campaign in states where women's rights and lives are threatened by anti-woman lawmakers and candidates.

Thanks for all that you do for women and NOW!

For women’s lives,

Terry O'Neill, President
National Organization for Women
