Protecting Survivors of Intimate Partner Violence: Supporting Stricter Background Checks for Gun Sales
Stricter gun control measures are needed to protect survivors of intimate partner violence from further harm and imminent danger. In the final days before its recess, Congress must vote on the Public Safety and Second Amendment Rights Protections Act of 2015 (H.R.1217) in order to mandate background checks for all gun sales, even those sold by private sellers. Failing to do so neglects well-supported evidence regarding the effects of abusers’ access to firearms, and demonstrates blatant disregard for the livelihood of survivors. Email your representative (below) and call Speaker Ryan (202-225-3031) to ask them to support the bill and to schedule a floor vote on H.R. 1217.
